Monitoring your horse’s heart rate offers valuable insights into their health and performance. The key to accurate readings is Proper fitting of the Enduro Girth Wrap Follow this guide to ensure you’re getting the most reliable data from your equine heart rate monitor.
Preparation
- Clean the area where the Girth Wrap will sit to improve contact with the electrodes embedded into the Girth Wrap.
- Use a damp sponge to wet the area on the left side of the horse where the Girth Wrap electrodes are positioned against the horse’s body.
Fitting Process
- Firstly, pair the Enduro HR sensor with the Enduro FIT app. Please follow the quick pair guide section of the user manual.
- Before every ride, insert the HR sensor into the Enduro Equine Girth Wrap clip.
- Fitting the Heart Rate Monitor Girth Wrap
- On first use, fit the girth around the horse and attach loosely to the saddle straps
- With the HR sensor fitted, hold the Girth Wrap flat fabric upright with the electrodes and wet skin text facing the left side of the horse.
- Slide the flat fabric along the left side of the horse under the girth and against the horse’s body.
- Simply feed the whole girth through one of the bottom elastic supports to maintain the horizontal position.
- Then feed one of the girth straps under one of the top elastic supports and then feed the other girth strap over the same elastic support to maintain a vertical position.
- Once fixed, wrap the left wing (with sensor clip) over the outside of the girth and then fasten by wrapping the right wing (with logo) over the top ensuring that the velcro fastening is aligned and secure.
Fine-tuning
- Test connection: Once the Girth Wrap is pulled tight against the horse’s body, the Enduro FIT app will display the horse’s heart rate
- Allow adjustment time: Give your horse a few minutes to get used to the Girth Wrap
- Make necessary tweaks: If after 30 – 60 seconds the HR reading fails to be displayed you may want to check if the sensor has become detached. Alternatively loosen the girth and reapply water to the horse’s belly. Note, if the horse is very hairy you may want to consider clipping the hair in the area of the girth. If you still have issues, check the sensor is paired and the battery is not flat
Maintenance
- After each ride, when the Girth Wrap is removed, ensure that the Enduro Heart Rate sensor is removed from the Girth Wrap clip, wiped clean and dried with a soft cloth.
- Store the HR sensor in dry conditions ready for your next ride. If the sensor remains attached it will remain awake whilst the GW is wet or damp. This will drain the sensor battery and the battery life will be shortened significantly.
- Regularly check for signs of wear or damage.
Troubleshooting
If you’re not getting a reading:
- Check for proper skin contact
Reapply water to the horse’s girth area
- Ensure the sensor is correctly fitted
Remember, achieving the perfect fit may take practice. Be patient and attentive to your horse’s comfort throughout the process.
By following these steps, you’ll maximize the accuracy of your horse’s heart rate data and help avoid loss of performance insights.
